The Collapse of the Visual Effects Industry

I made this silly video about the Oscars but it actually does reference a serious issue. In the last few months, several major visual effects companies hit big problems:

  1. Digital Domain (Titanic, Transformers Dark Side of the Moon) went bankrupt
  2. Pixomondo (Hugo) went bankrupt
  3. Dreamworks Animation (Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon) laid of 25% of its workers
  4. Rhythm and Hues (Life of Pi) went bankrupt

It’s a complicated problem and you can read more about it in this article on io9. But the upshot is that these are trying times for the industry that I work in.
