Dickens Christmas Fair

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Over the weekend, a few of us checked out the Great Dickens Christmas Fair in San Francisco. It’s sort of like a Renaissance Faire but with a Victorian Christmas theme. Yeah, it’s a little hard to describe. But they have a lot of cute shops, tasty food, and live entertainment. We got to see Father Christmas, a few chimney sweeps, and even Queen Victoria herself. But the strangest costumes belonged to the people who came dressed in steampunk outfits:

bit.ly

In my twitter feed, I occasionally make use of bit.ly, a URL shortening service. Basically, you type in a long URL like “http://www.machwerx.com/writings/jumpgate-blues/” and it gives you back a shorter one like “http://bit.ly/7PpZ9S“. This is useful when you’re twittering because it only takes 20 characters. But I just recently discovered that if you add a “+” sign at the end of the URL like “http://bit.ly/7PpZ9S+“, you can get stats on how many people clicked on the link as well. Pretty neat.

(Oh, if you’re feeling super frugal with your character length, you can also use j.mp instead to save a couple extra characters.)

I just saw this cool video by “Soldier Knows Best” who recommended my iPhone App, Holograms, as his “App of the Week”:

It makes me smile when I see that someone enjoys something that I made. =)
